The Counter Mindset: Part 2

The easiest thing is to stay stuck.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Public accounting is known for its long hours. You expect it. You prepare for it. It’s “just the way it is.”

And because it’s normal, continuing to grind through tax and audit seasons feels like the path of least resistance.

When you start to challenge the system, it gets hard. Or that's what you think.

You think it’s going to be like Neo from The Matrix when he realizes he’s in a simulation and then everything starts to fight back.

Every time I have challenged the norm in my firm, I am terrified of what will happen next.

It's negative self-talk, fear, doubt, and anxiety that does its thing on me. I almost back down every time.

What if I lose clients? What if it all falls apart?

Because it feels like I'm the only firm that's challenging the norm (I'm not).

And then, when the changes occur, there is virtually no pushback. Turns out I was wrong, again.

In future newsletters, I’ll break down exactly what I did and what changed as a result.

If you’re walking this same road, I see you. You’re not the only one.

Thanks for reading.
