The Counter Mindset: Part 3

Comparison is the thief of creativity

We all do it.

Glance at someone else’s website. Scroll through social media groups. Hear about other firms at networking events.

Suddenly, you’re thinking: I should probably do that too…

But here’s the problem: When you compare your firm to the old ways, you start to build a room of standards and then lock yourself in the room.

And if you're not careful, you forget where the key is.

The old ways weren’t built with reflection after every cycle. They weren’t optimized for flexibility or creativity.

They were optimized for staying the same year after year. SALY, if you will.

That’s not bad, it just doesn’t allow for anything new.

So why are we copying their pricing models? Their websites? Their services?

When you stop comparing, you start creating.

You begin to ask better questions:

What would this look like if I built it from scratch today? What would I want if I were the client? Does it have to be this way?

You stop building a firm the way you think you should, and start building a firm the way that actually works for you.

The best firms of the next decade might not look like accounting firms at all. They might look like coaches, collaborators, creators, or communities.

Let’s rewrite what accounting firms can look like.
